Caz over at Mental health 360° was kind enough to nominate me for The Blogger Recognition Award. If you haven’t been over to Caz’s blog already then I really recommend that you do! It is an in depth account of mental health from both a personal and professional approach, with posts that are thought-provoking, heartfelt and full of advice. I always enjoy reading them and have learned a lot.

How my blog started
I had been reading blogs for years and always wanted my own but I’m a lethal combination of being horrifically indecisive and afraid of my writing being judged. This meant that I always came up with excuses for why I wasn’t starting a blog: I don’t know what to call it, I’m too busy, I don’t know what I want it to look like, I don’t know any of the technical side of things etc etc.
Anyway, I finally plucked up the courage to start the process but I didn’t get as far as publishing any content for over a year…fears and indecision struck again! Well eventually I realised that if I wrote my blog for myself first and foremost then it would be fun, a hobby and if it didn’t all work out then who cares because I could just delete it all anyway.
I made the choice to only tell the people closest to me about it, the people that I could guarantee would only be supportive and that helped, I liked the privacy if that makes sense. So, yes, after many false starts I finally got around to publishing my first post and I’ve been blogging ever since and really enjoying it. It’s been the past year where I’ve really dedicated more time and effort to it and I’m enjoying it more than ever.
When I started my blog I wanted it to be a little bit of everything because that is what I like to read. As time as gone on my blog has pretty much continued along that path, it is a little heavier on book related content these days but I still like the variety of the posts that I’m writing.
My two pieces of advice to new bloggers
My first piece of advice is persevere. It takes time to work out how you want your blog to look, to figure out what it is that you want to write about, and to gain engagement from readers but it will come so don’t give up. As long as you are passionnate about what you write then everything will click into place.
My second piece of advice is to make an effort with other blogs/bloggers. Always respond to any comments you receive, and make sure to check out and comment on other blogs as well. But be sincere, don’t just unashamedly spam someone to promote your own blog.
To anybody reading this that would like to have a go…please consider yourself tagged! I will also nominate some bloggers that I have come across recently and been really enjoying, and they are:
Jacqueline @ Jacqueline of All Trades
Alice @ Alice and Her Bookshelf
Kate @ kateheartslife
Jess @ Comfort Reads
There’s no obligation to take part of course but I look forward to reading your answers if you do!
Thanks for reading, I hope that you enjoyed!
