Firstly I’m going to start by saying that I’m one of those people that can’t stand it if somebody folds the pages down in a book! It’s that fear that makes me most nervous about lending a book to somebody, particularly if it is one of my favourites. How do you feel about this?
As a result I always need a bookmark close by when I’m reading. Over the last couple of years with this blog reigniting my love for reading and making it more public I have received quite a few bookmarks as gifts. Before this I would’ve said that anything would do, I’d shove an old receipt, a scrap of paper, even a bit of junk mail in to mark the page. It didn’t matter, what was important was that I knew where I had stopped reading and that I wasn’t dog-earing. During this time I was far more preoccupied with if I had a coffee close to hand, I can’t seem to read without one!

However, now that I have such a lovely collection of bookmarks I realise that I find it so much more satisfying to pick up one of them to use rather than last weeks food shopping receipt. Picking up a new bookmark is almost as satisfying as opening a new book to read. I didn’t think I would ever be that person but apparently I am.
I love everything about books, a beautiful cover, the ‘book smell’ and it seems that now a bookmark is an extension of that. So, even though one or two would suffice I can’t get enough of them.
It’s similar to my obsession with mugs, I love coffee so I enjoy having lots of different beautiful mugs that I can choose from depending on my mood. Despite the cupboard being fit to burst I still can’t help myself but to buy more. I always say that the previous purchase is the last one…it never is. It seems the same is happening with bookmarks. I now have lots of different ones that I can pick from not only depending on my mood but depending on what I think will suit the book that I am reading, and yet I find myself thinking one more won’t hurt. It’s a slippery slope! Perhaps I’m taking it too far. Is it normal to consider which bookmark would suit which book on the shelf? I don’t know, but what I do know is I can’t get enough of them and I’d happily have hundreds! I suppose it’s good that they aren’t too big, so if my collection does get a little out of hand at least I don’t have to worry too much about storing them all!

What are your thoughts on bookmarks? Do you have a collection or are you an any old bit of paper will do type? As always I would love to hear your thoughts!
Thanks for reading, I hope that you enjoyed!
