Questions set by Caz

What influenced the name of your blog?

It was actually my boyfriend that came up with the name for me, I enlisted his help after many crossed out ideas went in the bin. Ultimately it represents looking beyond the surface of life and books. I wanted my blog to be a split of ‘the everyday’ and all things bookish. I’m awful at explaining things like this so I hope that makes sense!

How long have you been blogging and how are you finding it?

I started blogging in 2018 but I would say it was 2019 when I started to really focus on my blog. I love blogging, it’s so much fun and I couldn’t imagine not doing it now.

Who would your blog appeal to or who would you like your blog to appeal to?

Hmm, this is a tricky one. I don’t really know to be honest, I suppose anyone with an interest in random bits and bobs (I tend to write whatever I want to rather than follow a particular plan), and books of course, this blog is heavy on book reviews. There isn’t a particular audience that I want to appeal to, I would like there to be something here for everyone…if that’s possible.

Tell us about your most current job and one thing you liked/disliked about it?

My current job is working in the bar/restaurant and banqueting facilities within a hotel. It’s not my dream job but I don’t hate it.  In my opinion you have to have a specific sense of humour to work in hospitality, (it’s what gets you through the anti-social hours) and I would say I have that humour so I always have a giggle on shift with the other staff. I guess that is what I like most about my job. If I had to choose what I dislike most it would be tricky customers, sometimes it’s clear from the outset that you are fighting a losing battle and irrelevant of what you do it is simply a matter of time before they complain.

What’s the last book you read about?

The last book that I read was a thriller about a missing husband, a potential serial killer and a suspicious wife. I really enjoyed it! It made me doubt everybody, at times even the police officers who were investigating. I’ll have a review of it up soon, but the book is called The Perfect Couple by Jackie Kabler and it’s published in April.

Tell us two truths and one lie (just for fun) about you?

Hmmm what to choose…ok, 1 – I went behind my parents back and had my tongue pierced when I was 16, 2 – I’ve only ever had two jobs, 3 – My favourite wine is Cabernet Sauvignon.

Who was your last conversation with and what was it about?

My last conversation was with my boyfriend, he was calling to say he’d just finished work and did I need anything from the shop…yes my life is that exciting haha.

Who would you like to have dinner with, dead or alive, and why?

Do I have to pick just one person? If I had to narrow it down to one then I would choose Jane Austen. I would love to discuss her work with her and pick her brains to find out what she thinks of modern literature. Wouldn’t it be great for example to discover what she makes of Harry Potter?!

If I could pick a few more then I would choose Roald Dahl, Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill and Marilyn Monroe.

When was your last belly-laugh and what was so funny?

I actually did a huge belly laugh just before I sat down to write this. I was feeding my daughter her dinner and she did a huge and very loud yawn that stopped me in my tracks and made me burst out laughing, she appeared to be very proud of herself!

Where, when and who was your last picnic?

My last picnic was last summer. It was in Clevedon with my partner, daughter, and my side of the family, the weather was lovely and the food was yummy!

What would you do if you found a £50 note?

If I found it somewhere where I could hand it in, say a shop or a restaurant then I would give it to staff and hope that they wouldn’t pocket it. If it was just in the street and I couldn’t work out who it might belong to then I would donate it. I would feel cursed if I kept it! Also, if it was my money I would hope that if somebody found it then they would try and do the right thing for me so I would have to follow that myself.

What are your thoughts on my answers? I would love to hear!
