I thought it was time to get some festive content posted…it is pretty much halfway through December after all! Surely the best post to kick things off is one about Christmas films, aren’t they one of the first things that comes to mind when thinking about the lead up to the big day?! I love Christmas films, but I do save them for December, it just doesn’t seem right to me to watch them any other time of the year. It’s also more of a treat if it’s kept to just the one month of the year I think.
Keep reading to find out my favourite films to watch this time of year, I would love to hear if any of my choices match yours!

Home Alone (1990)
Nothing quite says Christmas like a tale of a family forgetting to take one of their children on their trip away for the holidays…oh and a little spot of burglary. Jokes aside, this film is one of those ones that we watched every year, and I still like to indulge now. It’s such a brilliant, fun film that all the family can enjoy.
The Santa Clause (1994)
Another great family film that I remember watching throughout my childhood. Much like the one above, you could say the subject matter is questionable…Santa falling off a roof?! But overall, it’s just such a lovely film, a really heartwarming festive treat.
Miracle on 34th Street (1994)
So, besides the fact that the little girl is the same little girl who stars in Matilda and Mrs. Doubtfire (two of my favourite films ever!) this film is just everything you could hope for from a Christmas movie. It’s got the skeptical child who ends up with her Christmas spirit fully restored, there is the triumph of good over bad, and if you imagine the most traditional looking Santa then you won’t be far off this one. If I picture Santa now, I see Richard Attenborough!

Love Actually (2003)
Yes it’s beyond cheesy, but isn’t that kind of the point with Christmas movies? It’s predictable and obvious yes, but it’s still wonderful to watch. It’s cosy and comfortable and I watch it every year without fail, sometimes multiple times because I just can’t help myself!
The Holiday (2006)
Another totally predictable and obvious story absolutely, but a fabulous film all the same. I love the different settings, and the triumph of love…sure, things like that don’t often, if ever, happen in real life but it’s fun to pretend.
I’m going to group the next three together because, although they technically aren’t Christmas films they are always on the TV during the festive period so I equate them with Christmas first and foremost. They are…
The Wizard of Oz (1939), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968), Mary Poppins (1964)
I love these three for the same reasons: singing along to the songs, the fantasy storylines, and the fact that they all remind me of my childhood at Christmas. Even though none of them have a Christmas theme I still remember watching them every year, so for me at least they represent the festive period.

This is a lovely nostalgic list! Home Alone is one of my favourites too, it makes me laugh every time 😊 I can also highly recommend Arthur Christmas, my favourite newer Christmas film. It’s definitely one of the most underrated festive films ever so I will never stop telling everyone to watch it!!!

I love all these films tho’ one of my all-time favourites is ‘Wonderful Life’ with James Stewart. A really old black and white film but it’s all about the true meaning of life, money, family and friends.
