Seeing as it’s the spooky season, I thought it would be fun to write something that not only honours this time of year, but also asks a question, because I love this style of post. With that in mind, do leave a comment at the end if you would like to join the discussion!
Now, back to the question.
Could you live somewhere that has a murky past?
Would you be able to stay there if you were brave enough to move in, or would it get the better of you?

To clarify, I’m completely thinking of The Amityville Horror film as I write this. I’m thinking about hauntings, crime scenes, potential hoaxes and exaggerations. I’m considering the land upon which a house has been built, I’m thinking about prior uses of a building before it came to be a home etc.
I’m pretty sure I’ve covered everything that could result in a property being seen as having a murky past. But, if I have missed anything then do let me know.
So why am I asking?
I’m curious. And the reason I’m curious is because I absolutely COULD NOT.
But why not?
When it comes to spooky stuff, ghosts etc., I’m one of those people that when asked whether I believe or not will always respond with “I don’t know but I’m happy not knowing, I don’t need it proven to me either way”. I guess that is reason enough for answering no to my question. I’m not entirely shut off from the idea and surely somewhere that has been a crime scene/is reportedly haunted would be exactly the place that it would be proven to me if it is real?

Of course there will be people who absolutely do not believe in the spooky stuff. I wonder if just the event would be enough to put them off or whether they would be more than happy to move in?
In addition to this there will be people who absolutely do believe and maybe they want to experience something and would move in, who knows?
It’s all assumptions on my part, I really have no idea. What I do know however is that no matter how beautiful a property, how cheap, how convenient etc. etc. you would never in a million years catch me moving in if its past was murky. I just know I wouldn’t be able to relax. I would find my eyes wandering, I would think a simple draught was a spirit, I would work myself up into a state I just know it.
All of this relies upon the information being public and the individual discovering it of course. If these two things don’t happen, well, then a person could find they’ve signed on the dotted line for a property with a chequered history without even knowing it! Thinking about this makes me question my house a bit I must admit.

It’s a lot to think about isn’t it. All I know is that a property with a murky past would be enough to put me off. The only exposure that I want to anything spooky is when watching a film or picking a book. Should it put me off? Perhaps, and perhaps not. That depends on whether the believers or the non believers are right, and whether good or evil is at play…
Now, over to you. I would love to hear your thoughts on this so please leave a comment and tell me if you would live somewhere with a murky past, and why/why not. Perhaps you already do, what are your opinions on it?
Thanks for reading, I hope that you enjoyed!
Until the next time…Jess x
