Seasonal

The best bits about summer!

Summer has arrived! Well, as much of a summer as we get in Great Britain anyway! So, now that we have actually enjoyed some summer days I thought I would write a quick post about all the things I love about this time of year.

Let me know if any of mine match yours!

1 – It stays lighter later. At the moment it doesn’t get dark until around 9:30pm, which definitely helps my productivity. I don’t know why but the longer I feel like it is daytime the more I keep going and the more tasks I get completed.

2 – Less layers. Don’t get me wrong, I love my winter clothes but it’s definitely easier to get out and about without having to grab a coat or scarf or gloves or…okay you get the idea.

3 – Iced coffee. Now, obviously there is no rule against having an iced coffee when it’s cold but I just don’t enjoy them as much in the winter months so I stick to hot coffee then. I think it’s safe to say that I have enough iced coffee in the summer to make up for the rest of the year though!

4 – Reading a book outdoors. Whether that’s taking a chair out to the garden, finding a bench by the marina or settling down on the beach, disappearing into a good book outdoors is such a treat!

5 – Going for a walk. I love walking and whilst I am happy to venture out in any weather it is definitely more straightforward and enjoyable when it’s warm and dry outside!

6 – Bumblebees. I don’t really know why I like them so much but I just do. I love seeing them fly from flower to flower and I definitely miss them when the colder days roll around.

7 – Fresh air. Warmer weather invites you to get out and about, to drive with the windows down, to open all the windows in the house and get the breeze flowing through, it’s so good for clearing the mind!

8 – Healthy eating. I’m the first to reach for heavy and comforting meals when it’s cold and whilst they are totally yummy I do like how I feel when I eat healthier foods. When it’s warm I find it much easier to prepare something light and healthy and I try to stick to this as much as possible.

9 – Exercise. Much like food I find it far easier to motivate myself with exercise when the weather is good. Maybe the sun puts me in a good mood or maybe it’s simply that I want to look my best when I’m not hidden under cosy jumpers, or maybe it’s a combination of the two. All I know is that I’m much better at sticking to an exercise routine in the summer months and I love the way it makes me feel both physically and mentally.

10 – Mood. I don’t know if it’s the increased vitamin D but I find my general mood is much more upbeat during the summer months. Looking out at a blue sky full of fluffy white clouds makes me smile and feel much happier within myself than when I look out at a dark, grey and dreary day.

11 – Socialising. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hibernate in the winter months but I definitely find it more of a challenge to motivate myself to get out and about and do things. In the summer however, I’m always getting out and seeing people. It’s just much easier to hide away under a blanket when it’s cold and wet outside isn’t it.
