Can you really achieve perfect timekeeping?

What is your timekeeping like?

Mine has always been off. When I was younger it was off in the way of me always being stupidly early for everything. I’m not kidding, I would be the person with an appointment at 10am who would turn up at 9.20am and feel foolish hanging around. I worried though, a lot. I worried about traffic, getting lost, finding somewhere to park, finding where I needed to go etc.etc. I’m still a self-confessed worrier now and yet my timekeeping has completely switched to the point that I am never on time!

I’m not intentionally late, I always feel bad about it, and I know that sounds like a poor excuse but it is the truth. I don’t do it on purpose and I vow to be better, and then lo and behold…late again.

20190512_182908I know that I said above that I am a self-confessed worrier, and I am, but in many ways I am also really laid back. I think this is what causes my downfall. Let’s say, for example, that I have a coffee date with a friend planned for a specific time. I can look and see that I really should be heading out and yet if there is only 5 minutes left until the washing finishes I will inevitably hang on and sort that first.

That’s bad isn’t it.

The world isn’t going to stop turning just because the washing has sat in the machine for a couple of hours. I know this, I feel awful for succumbing to it, and yet it keeps happening. I don’t know if that is because being 5 or 10 minutes late isn’t a big deal or if my family and friends are just too understanding. Either way, I know I need to start making more of an effort to get myself together so that I am on time for things.

It’s just going to be easier said than done because when I have tried it, the result has been for me to be too early again. Why can’t I just make it on time to my commitments?

  1. I hate being late for things, but I’m often late! I’m not sure why… I think I lose track of time. I’ve tried to combat this by setting more than one alarm, especially in the morning. Honestly, I have one to get up and one to leave the house, it definitely helps.
