Wise words aren’t they?
You will probably be aware by now that I love reading quotes, I find them so inspiring. I also find it comforting when I come across some words that somebody else has spoken that I can either relate to or that can make me feel better about something that is troubling me.
When I read this quote it settled my mind.
I have been thinking a lot lately about being a writer. As I have explored options on how to make writing a career I have been riddled with doubts. I have questioned whether I am good enough, whether I could handle the inevitable rejection and harsh criticism, whether I can realise my ambitions.
And then I read this quote.
It made me feel like I should definitely pursue my dreams. I may not be an expert (is anybody?!) but I have passion for writing and surely that is a good starting point? I may not be as experienced as many, perhaps my grammar and spelling could be improved, and there are surely many literary terms that I am not familiar with but who cares?! All these things can be taught to me can’t they. All these elements can be worked on and improved. An athlete has to keep training even if they are a champion in their sport and so, surely every writer has to practice their craft as well even if they are a best selling author? If there were perfect writers then there wouldn’t be editors and proof readers would there?
I have shared with you before that I would love to write a novel, you can read that post here if you haven’t already and would like to. That desire never left me but I did ignore the task. Whether that was fear or something else I’m not sure but after reading Hemingway’s words I have a renewed drive to open that file on my computer and get back into writing it again.
So, that is what I’m going to do. I’m going to leave this post here and take advantage of my renewed energy to write the story that I started long ago and neglected almost as long ago. I hope this post helps you to feel inspired to pursue a dream of yours as well, whatever that dream may be! Let’s face it, if we try then there is a chance of failure, if we don’t try at all then we have already failed. I know which option I think is more appealing, don’t you?
Have you read any quotes that have inspired you or given you comfort? Please share them in the comments if you would like to!
Thanks for reading!
Until the next time…Jess x
