This is a bit of a random post but the idea came to me and even though it’s a little different to my usual content I really wanted to write it. So, here it is. Also, as it’s Valentines day tomorrow and we are having an ‘at home date night’ to mark it, I figured the timing was just about right.
For one reason or another (usually a shift work job knackering us out) me and my boyfriend tend to have ‘us time’ at home. I confess this is usually because I can’t be bothered to get ready to go out. I can’t help it, I’m just easily pleased…some comfy clothes and no makeup is great for me! We do go out and do things, we’re not hermits, but we have found that an at home date night really works for us. Therefore, I wanted to share with you what this consists of for us because if you aren’t feeling too great or you’re trying to limit your spending then this might be a good idea for you too! If you already indulge in at home date nights then I would love to hear what you do!
Play a board game
Or a whole bunch of them if I’m completely honest! We both really enjoy playing board games. We chuck a Spotify playlist on and look through our seemingly never ending collection and pick a few out. It’s really nice to do something together without phones and stuff distracting us. Playing a board game (or five) is a great way to do something fun whilst we chat.
Cook a meal together
By this I mean he cooks us a meal while I potter around the kitchen cleaning and organising. I don’t enjoy cooking at all and it really isn’t one of my strong points but we both like to enjoy a nice meal together, so we choose what we want to have and then he makes it whilst I keep him company. I’m really lucky that he enjoys cooking and is really good at it so he becomes chef and I become chief table setter/drinks maker. It doesn’t feel like a chore when we do it together.
Watch a film with some drinks and snacks
It’s like an at home cinema experience, just way more cosy! We trawl through Netflix, taking way too long to pick something, and then once we have that ready we get some snacks, drinks, turn out the lights and get comfy on the sofa (usually under a blanket). It’s way cheaper than the cinema, you can pause the film if you need the loo and nobody has to drive home afterwards, perfect! The only issue is making sure neither one of us falls asleep halfway through, which, believe me, is easier said than done!
And that’s that. Our at home date night. Don’t get me wrong, I love getting out and about and socialising but I’m equally happy at home having a quiet night in. It might sound silly but quality time is so important and it’s vital to make the most of it! So, even if there are things to do (there usually are…way too many in fact) sometimes it is better to just say that it can wait until tomorrow because tonight a bit of ‘us time’ is more important!
I hope you enjoyed reading this! Do you have any ‘at home date night’ tips that you would like to share?
Until the next time…Jess x
